Knossos palace - Lassithi plateau

We will begin our tour heading up to the mountains and discover the famous Plateau of Lassithi with its windmills and beautiful traditional villages. On the way we will stop at one of the most famous convents of Crete Kera Kardiotissa located in a picturesque and quiet place. You will listen the legend of the miraculous icon, admire the ancient frescoes and the amazing view from this place.

Next stop is the village of Psychro, the traditional pottery center of Crete. Local craftsmen keep and transmit their knowledge and skills from generation to generation for many centuries. The craftsman will show you how to create a beautiful Greek amphorae and then you can try to make one on your own.

After that, we will drive to to the mysterious Dictean or Zeus’ Cave, considered the birthplace of the main Olympic god Zeus. To get to the cave you will need to walk up about 10-15 minutes. Take your time and explore this beautiful place.

The next stop is the village of Dzermiado, the capital of the Plateau. The place characterized by its natural beauty, breathtaking views and traditional architecture. Go for a walk and and take some pictures of the beautiful landscapes, have lunch or just relax in one of the authentic local taverns.

Leaving the Plateau Lassithi we continue to the main attraction of the island, the Palace of Knossos. Based by Minoans about 4 thousand years ago, the palace represents the power of that era. Our professional guide will take a fascinating tour through the palace. You will get acquainted with its amazing architecture, wall painting, the ancient water supply system and of course learn the myth of the labyrinth of Minotaur. At the end of the tour you will have enough time to walk around the palace or take a rest in the shade of century-old trees and enjoy the beauty of this place.
