Heraklion - Market - Cretaquarium
With our excursion we go to the biggest open market in Crete, which is organized once a week; where you will have the opportunity for shopping on a very low cost price. If you want to get small presents and souvenirs for home, this is the best choice for you. By visiting the open market in Heraklion you will get the feeling of market life in Crete. The buzz on the market will bring you back in time and you will see how the locals try to present and sell their products. Apart from souvenirs and clothes you can also find food and bio-Cretan products. On the market you will have the opportunity to taste the traditional “suvlaki” on foot as well, on the many small posts selling food and drinks.
Also we go to Heraklion city, where we will visit the old market in the town Centre - the Lion's square - where you will have the opportunity of shopping around. The old Market Street is still a place for "Herakliotes" - the people that live in Heraklion, to come every day to meet, talk and have fun. As you are walking on the streets, you will grab the atmosphere of being a local and feel the buzz around you. Afterwards we will visit the Church of Saint Titus which is a beautiful church and an important monument for the town of Heraklion.
Driving back from Heraklion we will make one more stop in the famous Cretaquarium Thalassocosmos. Founded by the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research it is home to 2000 sea animals of 200 different species found in the Mediterranean basin from small fish and clams to big sharks and tuna. Our walk next to the big tanks will be nothing less than impressive. The remarkable lighting and the constant water movement will give us the impression that we are actually diving in another world.
